Scottish elopement location – Seacliff Beach
Seacliff Beach, located in East Lothian, Scotland, is a beautiful, relatively quiet and a hidden gem 45 minutes along the coast to the south east of Edinburgh just a few miles from North Berwick. Seacliff beach is known for its picturesque scenery, offering spectacular views of The Bass Rock and Tantallon Castle. Being off the tourist trail, it also offers tranquillity.
Seacliff also has its own castle – Auldhame Castle nestled above the beach.
Seacliff Beach ceremony area
My choice for your ceremony location would be at the north end of beach, where there is an outcrop of rocks (in which there is also the world’s smallest harbour!), which offer the backdrop of Tantallon Castle just slightly up the coast, or the just as spectacular Bass Rock as you look out to sea.
Auldhame Castle
The ruins of Auldhame Castle are nestled just above the north end of the beach. Auldhame Castle dates back to the 16th century and is an example of a fortified “tower house” which were common in this part of Scotland.
The remains of the castle include portions of the tower and surrounding walls. Much of the structure has been lost, but a covered vault is still in good condition and is big enough for a small number of people to stand in.
